Fairfiled, CT - The Wiffleball
When you swing it and miss you'll hear a"whiff" and it hopefully won't break a window. David N. Mullany of Fairfield invented the "Whiffleball" in 1953 to help his son with a regulation ball that was easy throw and curve. Now the name of the ball is also a game of the same namesake that has international competitions seen on mega sports network ESPN (another Connecticut-born phenomenon).
Be thankful to Fairfield, Connecticut next time you are on the beach playing a game. And check out the New England Wiffle Association for some serious play and the official rules.
